12-month CPI trajectory

Prices in Ireland are currently rising faster than the European Central Bank's 2.0% price-stability target, with stronger pressures in housing & utilities and transport, while food inflation is more contained.

Live high-frequency proxies

Wholesale and global signals that often move before official CPI. Dashed lines are matching sector rates — not forecasts.

Wholesale electricity

SEMOpx day-ahead · EUR/MWh

104.7 €/MWh

Typically feeds Energy CPI with a 6–10 week lag.

Average pump prices

AA Ireland · EUR/L (petrol/diesel mean)

€1.905/L

WoW +1.3%

Pump prices tend to show up later in Transport CPI.

Global food index

FAO Food Price Index

133.3

MoM +1.9%

Global food prices often lead Food CPI by 3–6 months.

Macroeconomic engines

Policy rates, wages and domestic demand against Irish CPI since 2021. Quarterly MDD is not interpolated to months.

ECB main refinancing rate vs mortgage interest CPI

When the ECB raises or cuts its main refinancing rate, Irish mortgage interest in the CPI tends to follow with a lag — not always one-for-one.

Wage growth vs headline CPI

Earnings growth above CPI means real wages are rising on average; the reverse erodes purchasing power. Series is calculated from CSO weekly earnings (DEA05).

Modified Domestic Demand vs headline CPI

Modified Domestic Demand tracks underlying domestic spending. Strong demand can coexist with high or low inflation depending on supply and imported costs.

Methodology & disclosures

Headline and core CPI are official CSO observations (CPM20 / CPM21). Basket weights are CPA10; detailed component rates are CPM24. Observed values are never overwritten by proxies or calculated series.

Wholesale electricity (SEMOpx), AA pump prices and the FAO Food Price Index are proxies — high-frequency context, not the next CPI release. AA figures may come from a live scrape or a human-checked fixture when the AA site blocks automation.

Wage growth is a calculated year-on-year change from DEA05 weekly earnings (method wage.yoy.v1). Modified Domestic Demand is quarterly (NAQ05) and is not interpolated to months.
