Killed, injured and collision counts are different units. Injured mixes serious and minor unless a table says otherwise. RSA statistics hosted by CSO are provisional and revised annually.
Official values are observed CSO/RSA table cells. Estimated values (RSA 2025 public-road extract, Garda 2026 year-to-date) are separate series — not the next year of persons killed on roads (ROA12). The 2026 full-year figure under the Garda YTD card is a linear projection, not an official forecast.
The map is TII injury collision rates on the national road network only (2022–2024 vintage) — a rate, not a collision count, and not local or regional roads. County killed counts (ROA15) remain in More measures; that map is a count, not exposure-adjusted.

The Data Gap: Tracking Root Causes
Official coronial data indicates that intoxication, inappropriate speed, driver distraction (mobile phones), and seatbelt non-compliance are the primary drivers of fatal collisions in Ireland. For example, recent Medical Bureau of Road Safety analysis shows approximately 35% of driver fatalities test positive for alcohol.
Note on Data Availability. Real-time, machine-readable API feeds for collision causation and toxicology are not currently published by the State. Enforcement data, including penalty points and Fixed Charge Notices, can be explored in the Crime & Justice module.
